Airffic Shift: Shift Scheduling
Aviation safety standards, applied to rostering in every workplace.

Concept

In aviation, to keep one person’s mistake from becoming a serious accident, checklists, redundancy and standard operating procedures (SOP) — these three principles are absolute. Crew rosters are designed strictly on that basis.

Airffic Shift brings this aviation-grade discipline to rostering on every kind of frontline — healthcare, food service, retail, logistics. Rather than leaning on one person’s experience and intuition, itautomatically generates a monthly roster that follows every rule, from nothing but the conditions you enter.

Checklist Principle

Every staff member’s available days and hours, requested days off and consecutive-shift limits are listed out. Every condition is checked before the roster is generated.

🔁

Redundancy

We design teams that never depend on one individual, so minimum staffing holds even when someone calls in sick.

📋

Standard Procedures (SOP)

Scheduling rules become data, so every planner produces a roster of the same quality. Handovers no longer cause variation.

Challenges we solve

Key Features

Conditions in → monthly roster out

Enter staff names, available days, requested days off, consecutive-shift limits, minimum staffing and other conditions, and the AI generates the full monthly roster. It handles 28-, 30- and 31-day months and fills only the blanks — entries already confirmed, such as paid leave and fixed days off, are never overwritten.

Aviation-grade rule management

Shift symbols are turned into rules for every role — ◯ (on duty), 休 (day off), ★ (special role), ◉ (supervisor). Compound conditions such as “★ always falls the day before ◯” or “at least 4 staff on weekends” are followed exactly.

Works With Existing Data

Approved paid leave, special leave and fixed shifts stay exactly as they are; the AI fills in only what is still open. Nothing has to be rebuilt from scratch.

Spreadsheet Sync

Airffic Shift connects to Google Sheets and writes the generated roster straight in, so your team keeps working in the tool it already knows.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to build a roster?

Enter your constraints — staff names, available days, requested days off, consecutive-shift limits and minimum staffing levels — and a monthly roster is generated in minutes. What used to take half a day to several days by hand becomes entering the constraints and reviewing the result.

What happens to shifts that are already fixed (leave, set days off)?

Confirmed entries are never overwritten. The AI only fills empty slots, so pre-existing annual leave, fixed days off and training days are preserved exactly as entered.

Why apply aviation thinking to rostering?

Airline operations control is the daily work of rearranging limited crew and aircraft while holding to safety standards and duty-time limits. Standardising procedure through checklists, SOPs that hold quality steady whoever is on shift, and redundancy that avoids single points of failure — all of it transfers directly to rostering. The goal is to replace the veteran scheduler's undocumented instinct with a repeatable system.

Does it handle 28-, 30- and 31-day months and irregular shift patterns?

Yes. Varying month lengths are handled automatically. Multi-shift patterns such as early/late/night, weekly maximum working hours and limits on consecutive working days can all be set as constraints.
